Snowpack Labs

Terms of Use

Effective August 21, 2026. These Terms govern access to Snowpack Labs websites, maps, forecasts, data explorers, accounts, memberships and related services.

1. Acceptance and eligibility

These Terms are an agreement between you and Snowpack Labs ("Snowpack," "we," "us" or "our"). By selecting the checkbox and button indicating agreement, creating an account, purchasing a Membership or otherwise using a part of the Service that presents these Terms, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

You must be at least 13 years old. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to these Terms for you and supervise your use. You may not independently purchase a Membership unless you are legally able to enter that purchase agreement; a parent or guardian may purchase it on your behalf. If you use the Service for an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind it, and "you" includes that organization. The Service is intended for users in the United States and is not directed to children under 13.

2. What Snowpack provides

Snowpack provides experimental, model-generated estimates and planning information about snow cover, snow depth, surface conditions, weather, avalanche danger and avalanche problems. It may also let you inspect points, draw or import routes, compare modeled conditions along a route, save locations or tours, and review nearby third-party observations.

Snowpack is not a professional guide, avalanche center, meteorological authority, navigation service, rescue dispatcher, emergency communication device, or substitute for education, experience or judgment. It does not recommend routes, determine whether terrain is safe, monitor your location, or notify rescuers. Nothing in the Service is medical, legal, engineering or other professional advice.

3. Model and forecast limitations

All outputs are estimates. They can be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, delayed, internally inconsistent, unavailable or wrong. Weather forcing, satellite products, station observations, terrain data, historical avalanche information, processing code and model assumptions can each introduce error. Conditions may change faster than the Service updates.

Display resolution is not measurement resolution. A high-resolution pixel, slope-specific label or precise-looking boundary does not mean Snowpack directly measured that point or captured local wind loading, a weak layer, cornice, terrain trap, snow grain structure, crust supportability, route hazard or ski quality. Interpolation and downscaling do not create certainty. Modeled "surface conditions" are thermodynamic interpretations, not field observations.

Forecast skill varies by location, elevation, aspect, season, weather regime, data coverage and lead time. Historical or test results do not guarantee future performance. Features labeled preview, beta, experimental or synthetic may be less complete and may use demonstration data.

4. Assumption of backcountry risk

Backcountry and mountain travel are inherently dangerous. Hazards include avalanches, burial, blunt trauma, falls, cliffs, tree wells, crevasses, unstable snow, changing weather, cold, heat, exposure, altitude illness, getting lost, stream crossings, road conditions, equipment or communication failure, delayed or unavailable rescue, and the actions of other people. These hazards can cause property damage, serious injury or death even when a person is trained, equipped and cautious.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you knowingly and voluntarily assume the risks of your backcountry activities and of decisions you make using or after viewing the Service. Your use of Snowpack does not transfer responsibility for those activities or decisions to Snowpack.

5. Your responsibility; no exclusive reliance

You are solely responsible for decisions for yourself and your group, including:

  • obtaining appropriate avalanche, first-aid, navigation and rescue training;
  • choosing objectives, routes, timing, partners and turnaround criteria;
  • carrying, knowing how to use and checking appropriate equipment;
  • consulting the applicable local avalanche center, weather authorities, closures, land managers, recent observations and local experts;
  • continuously evaluating snow, weather, terrain, group and human factors in the field; and
  • using a dedicated navigation method and emergency communication plan.

Never use Snowpack as the sole source for an avalanche, snow, weather, route, navigation, access or emergency decision. If the Service conflicts with current observations, an official warning, a closure, a local avalanche-center forecast or more conservative information, treat Snowpack as wrong and follow the more conservative information. No content means that a slope, route or area is safe. "Low" danger does not mean "no" danger.

6. Maps, routes, land access and emergencies

Map locations, search results, terrain values, routes and boundaries may be inaccurate. Snowpack does not guarantee public access, legal access, parking, road status, property boundaries, permits, closures or compliance with land-management rules. A drawn, imported, analyzed or saved route is user content and is not endorsed or approved by Snowpack.

The Service has no SOS function and is not designed for use while driving, skiing or otherwise moving through hazardous terrain. In an emergency, contact 911 or the appropriate local emergency service using a reliable communication method. Do not expect Snowpack to receive or respond to a request for help.

7. Accounts

The current conditions map may be viewed without an account. Some features require an account. You must provide accurate information, keep credentials confidential, and promptly notify us of suspected unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity through your account except to the extent caused by Snowpack. We may impose reasonable saved-item and usage limits.

You may request account deletion in Account Settings. The self-service flow may require you to cancel an active Membership and allow its paid term to end first so that billing and access records can be reconciled. This does not limit a privacy right: contact privacy@snowpacklabs.com if you need to submit a deletion request during a paid term. Some records may remain where legally required or reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, accounting or dispute resolution, as described in the Privacy Policy.

8. Memberships, automatic renewal and payment

Paid Membership terms—including price, currency, billing period and included features—are shown before purchase and are incorporated into these Terms. The current founding offer is $49.99 USD per year plus applicable tax. By purchasing, you expressly authorize Snowpack and Stripe to charge your selected payment method at purchase and automatically once each year at the then-applicable rate until you cancel.

A founding rate remains available only while the original founding Membership stays continuously active. If it is canceled or otherwise ends, it cannot be reclaimed. We will provide receipts, renewal reminders and notices of price or other material changes when required by law. A price change applies only after legally required notice and an opportunity to cancel.

You can cancel online through Account Settings → Manage billing. Cancellation stops future renewals and normally takes effect at the end of the current paid period. Except where law requires otherwise or the purchase screen expressly says otherwise, fees are nonrefundable and we do not provide prorated refunds or credits. If payment fails, we may retry the charge, suspend paid features or end the Membership. Stripe processes payment-card information under its own terms and privacy notice.

9. Third-party services and information

The Service depends on third parties, including weather and satellite programs, snow stations, avalanche centers, terrain and map providers, hosting, authentication, email and payment vendors. Third-party information may be modified, delayed, unavailable, incomplete or subject to separate terms. Links and attributions do not imply endorsement, affiliation or responsibility. Snowpack is not an official product of, and does not speak for, any avalanche center or government agency.

10. Snowpack intellectual property and permitted use

Snowpack and its licensors own the Service, including its software, visual design, branding, compilations, documentation and model-generated presentation, subject to rights in attributed third-party data. If you comply with these Terms, Snowpack gives you a limited, revocable, nonexclusive, nontransferable license to use the Service for your personal, noncommercial planning.

Unless Snowpack gives written permission or applicable law expressly allows it, you may not:

  • copy, republish, sell, sublicense or commercially exploit the Service or forecast outputs;
  • scrape, crawl, harvest or use automated means to access the Service at scale;
  • use outputs to train, validate or build a model, dataset or competing product;
  • reverse engineer, decompile, discover source code or circumvent technical or access controls;
  • remove attribution, safety information or proprietary notices, or misrepresent an output as an observation or official forecast; or
  • overload, disrupt, probe or compromise the Service or another user’s account.

Limited screenshots shared for personal trip discussion must retain visible attribution and safety context. Contact us for media, research, educational, API, commercial or redistribution permission.

11. User content and feedback

"User Content" includes route names and coordinates, GPX-derived routes, saved locations, field reports, photographs, screenshots, messages and other material you submit. You retain ownership of your User Content. You represent that it is accurate to the best of your knowledge, lawful, does not expose another person’s sensitive location without permission, and that you have the rights needed to submit it.

You grant Snowpack a worldwide, nonexclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, process and display User Content only as needed to operate, secure and improve the Service and provide requested support. For content you intentionally submit as forecast or field feedback, you also permit us to analyze and use it to test and improve our models and products after taking reasonable steps to remove direct account identifiers. This license ends when the content is deleted except for material already de-identified, incorporated into aggregate analysis, retained in routine backups for a limited period, or required for legal reasons.

Suggestions and product feedback may be used without restriction or compensation, but Snowpack will not publicly attribute them to you without permission. Do not submit emergency reports through support; submit safety-relevant observations to the applicable avalanche center as well.

12. Acceptable use

You may not use the Service unlawfully; infringe another person’s rights; upload malicious code; impersonate another person; interfere with security or operation; attempt unauthorized access; use the Service for autonomous or safety-critical control; or encourage someone to enter hazardous or closed terrain. You must comply with export-control and sanctions laws that apply to you.

13. Warranty disclaimer

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers, so some of the above may not apply to you.

14. Release and limitation of liability

These limitations do not apply where prohibited and do not limit liability that cannot lawfully be limited, which may include liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, fraud or certain personal injuries depending on applicable law. Counsel must review this section for every state in which Snowpack operates.

15. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Snowpack and its affiliates, officers, employees and agents from third-party claims and reasonable costs arising from your User Content, your unlawful or unauthorized use of the Service, or your material breach of these Terms. This does not require you to indemnify a party for its own negligence or misconduct where prohibited.

16. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate access when reasonably needed to protect users, the Service or third parties; respond to law; address nonpayment, abuse or a Terms violation; or discontinue the Service. Where practical, we will give notice and a chance to export or delete saved content. Sections that by their nature should survive termination—including ownership, disclaimers, liability limits, indemnity and dispute terms—will survive.

17. Changes to the Service or these Terms

We may change features, coverage, limits or these Terms. If a change is material, we will provide notice appropriate to the change, such as by email, an in-product notice or a new click-through. Changes apply prospectively from their stated effective date. Continuing to use the Service after a required new acceptance means you agree to the updated Terms. If you disagree, stop using the Service and cancel any Membership before its next renewal.

18. Governing law and disputes

Before filing a claim, please send a written description to legal@snowpacklabs.com so the parties can try to resolve it informally. Nothing here prevents either party from seeking urgent injunctive relief or using a qualifying small-claims court.

19. General terms

These Terms, the Privacy Policy and purchase terms presented at checkout are the entire agreement about the Service. If a provision is unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the rest will remain effective. A waiver must be written and is not a continuing waiver. You may not assign this agreement without our consent; we may assign it as part of a merger, financing, reorganization or sale of assets. Headings are for convenience only. Electronic notices and records satisfy written-notice requirements where law permits.
